Safety in common areas

Home is expected to be safe. What about common areas? How do we design public spaces and common areas to ensure there is enough public view yet not being too intrusive?

We should try to bring in the elements of public + semi public spaces to ensure there is enough public space for preventing too much of privacy in common areas.
